Wright Selected to Join U.S. State Department Diplomacy Lab

Wright College learned this week that, pending expected final approval, the U.S. Secretary of State’s Office of Global Partnerships has selected the college as a partner institution for the State Department’s Diplomacy Lab program. The application process for this program began back in February under the guidance of Service Learning Coordinator Merry Mayer.

Diplomacy Lab allows the State Department to “course-source” research and innovation related to foreign policy challenges by harnessing the efforts of students and faculty experts at universities across the country. This is a unique opportunity for Wright College students and professors to explore real-world challenges identified by State Department offices, while contributing to tangible United States public diplomacy goals.

All Wright faculty and students are encouraged to review the Diplomacy Lab Projects List to find research that would be relevant to them or their classes. A standard Diplomacy Lab team will be at least four students led by a faculty member, but students can also review the projects list and coordinate with a faculty member to suggest a bid. Interested faculty members should submit bids, not exceeding 500 characters, on up to two projects by emailing Merry Mayer at mmayer2@ccc.edu. Bids must be submitted to the State Department by April 26, so please contact Merry as soon as possible.

If a bid is accepted, faculty will work with students over the fall 2016 semester to complete the research. Diplomacy Lab teams will be in contact with State Department officials several times during the term for further guidance. The research then culminates in a final product such as a short policy briefing. Wright College will be able to submit up to four project bids in total, and list two alternates.
