Wright College Student-Athlete, Damaris Schneider, received the NJCAA Academic Award

Fourteen City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) student-athletes received the National Junior College Athletic Association’s (NJCAA) Academic Award for their accomplishments in the classroom and on the playing field in 2016-17.

To qualify for the award, which is based on the 2016-17 academic year (August 1-June 15), a student-athlete needs to meet the minimum standards of a 3.60 GPA, 24 college-level credit hours earned and two full-time semesters of enrollment. The student-athlete also needs to have competed in a sport in 2016-17. The NJCAA issues three different awards: First Team (4.00 GPA), Second Team (3.80-3.99 GPA) and Third Team (3.60-3.79 GPA).

All six CCC schools that offer athletics had at least one representative. The Wilbur Wright College recipient was Freshman Damaris Schneider (Waukegan H.S.) – Women’s Basketball- First Team. Schneider, a starter in 22 of Wright’s 25 games, concluded her freshman season averaging 6.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 1.0 assist per outing. She is seeking an Associate in Arts degree.

City Colleges of Chicago offers intercollegiate athletics at six colleges: Richard J. Daley College (soccer and basketball), Kennedy-King College (soccer and basketball), Malcolm X College (cross country, soccer, volleyball and basketball), Olive-Harvey College (basketball and baseball), Harry S Truman College (soccer and basketball) and Wilbur Wright College (basketball). City Colleges of Chicago is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
