The Disability Awareness Day and Resource Fair on March 30, 2016, was a chance for everyone at the college to learn about the disabilities that affect some members of our community. The Wright College Disability Access Center hosted the event.

“We had more than one hundred students and staff attend this inaugural fair on a busy Wednesday at Wright to learn about disabilities that most people don’t really consider on a day-to-day basis,” said Disability Access Center Director Vinita Subramani, “and that is really encouraging.”

Sixteen different organizations supporting individuals with disabilities had representatives at the fair including Wright College alum Colleen Shinn from Autism Speaks. She was delighted to return to share her organization’s important work with the college and remind everyone to Light It Up Blue on April 2nd for Autism Awareness Month.

One of the guest speakers was another Wright College graduate – former Student Ambassador Tim Granzow who is also an advocate for people with disabilities. Over the course of the day, there were various presentations on topics including autism awareness, employment for people with disabilities, person-centered planning, and effective strategies for teaching college students with disabilities.

Our thanks go out to everyone who made this inaugural event such a success, including the following participating organizations:
